Solomon E. Wollman, a Hartford native and graduate of Hartford schools, came to the University of Connecticut in 1951 as chief photographer after several years of professional experience. A graduate of the Pensacola School of Photography, Wollman served for four years as a U.S. Marine Corps photographer during World War II, and later served as industrial photographer for the United Aircraft Corporation .
